Abercorn Curling Club
Club Rules
These rules, determined by the Abercorn CC Committee, are to be applied to
all club games, taking preference over the RCCC "Rules of the Game",
which shall apply to all matters not covered below and to games involving other
clubs, unless specific variations are agreed in advance by all the clubs
involved. A reference copy of the RCCC "Rules of the Game" is
available from the Secretary.
Substitution or Missing Players
The nominated curlers shall all play in
the positions indicated unless one or two players are unavailable, when
substitutions can be made. It is the absent curler's responsibility to arrange
for a substitute. Those in the pool should be asked first, followed by other
Members of Abercorn CC and finally any other person may play.
The substitute
shall normally play in the same position as the person replaced, except:
- No more than 2 substitutes are permitted in any rink at any one time.
- If
the skip can't play, the 3rd shall become skip and the substitute shall play
3rd.
- In the Karl Pohlen competition, John Cochrane skips shall play lead.
If, due to substitution, there are two John Cochrane skips playing in the same
rink, they shall play lead and 2nd.
- If a substitute can not be found, it is
permissible to play with 3. Lead and 2nd shall each play 3 stones and the skip
shall play 2 stones. A penalty of 3 shots will apply and only one point will be
awarded for a win by the 3 player rink.
Lateness and Absence
If all players are
not on the ice and ready to play at the time signal the following penalties
shall apply:
- 1 or more curlers less than 5 minutes late: No penalty
- 1 or more curlers 5 to 10 minutes late: 1 shot
- 1 or more curlers
10 to 20 minutes late: 2 shots
- One curler more than 20 minutes late: 3
shots penalty (play the game with 3 curlers and adjust the final score - see
above)
- If 2 curlers are not present 20 minutes after the time signal the
game shall be forfeit and 6 shots shall be awarded to the opposing rink
- Under exceptional circumstances, on agreement of the skips of both rinks, these
penalties may be waived or reduced.
- 5 minutes after the time signal, three
players present may agree to start playing (see above), accepting a 1, 2 or 3
shot penalty, depending on when and if the 4th player turns up. The late player
shall take his/her position in the rink at any convenient time, even during the
progress of an end.
Retiral
Once a game has commenced, one player may retire
(due to ill health, injury etc.) without penalty. The lead and 2nd shall then
play 3 stones each.
By Order of the Abercorn Curling Club Committee
October
2008.
